Who do you think was more important to Rap music?
Ice-T,NWA, or Public Enemy
I’d say Public Enemy were more influential in the long run, as almost every successive rapper implemented a political element to their lyrical repertoire and they were one of the first hip-hop acts to be truly taken seriously by rock music critics…
N.W.A. were probably more prominent in terms of impact, considering that the west coast hip-hop scene was still intertwined with the Parliament Funkadelic backdrop and electro… they sparked off an exodus of artists and pioneered gangsta rap…
As for Ice-T although he played a pivotal role in the development of gangsta rap, he only really rose to prominence in the early 90s when he released two consecutive classics in The Iceberg and O.G. Original Gangster…
in short I’d say Public Enemy were the more influential, but N.W.A. had the greater legacy…
In terms of overall importance however – Public Enemy… their sound and overall aesthetic has proven more endearing and intelligent…
