Will 2mb cache be a lot better than a 512kb?
Im getting a laptop. The one I want has an AMD 1.6Ghz dual core processor with just 512kb cache.
Another has intel 1.66Ghz dual core 2 duo with 2mb cache. However, it has half the RAM, much less hard disk space and is £90 more.
I want to use it for music recording, word, internet and some games. Will their be much difference with a 2MB cache??
The AMD chip has 512 KB L2 cache for each CPU but the 2 MB for the Core 2 Duo is shared between the CPUs. AMD CPUs have larger L1 caches. The C2D will have a moderate average processor performance advantage but, personally I would go for the one with the larger RAM, particularly if Windows Vista is the one provided. The extra RAM will more than compensate for slower processing on some applications.
